Practical questions and answers

How do I turn an idea into a prototype?

Describe the user, problem and intended outcome in one sentence. Choose one test that establishes whether the solution deserves further work, then define the smallest prototype that can run that test. The first build does not need every final-product feature.

Appearance model or functional prototype?

An appearance model helps review size, handling and component placement. A functional prototype tests motion, sensing or control and may use a simple enclosure. A full user trial may require both; agree which aspects still will not represent the final product.

What should follow the trial?

Request a record of tests, conditions, observations, proposed revisions and agreed handover files. Separate function-blocking defects from improvements that can wait. Each design iteration then supports a documented decision rather than simply producing another version.
