Define the deliverable first: presentation image, printable mesh or dimensioned, editable CAD assembly. Visual modeling may suit a concept image; functional parts require controlled dimensions, relationships and revisions.
What affects the cost of 3D design?
Part count, surface and mechanism complexity, reference quality, drawing detail and revision rounds affect effort. Share approximate dimensions, intended use and existing files, and specify design only or design plus printing. A picture alone cannot establish a fixed price.
How do you avoid handover misunderstandings?
Agree native editable files, neutral formats, drawings and usage rights. STL describes a mesh and generally does not preserve a CAD feature tree. Confirm units, assembly orientation and revision identifiers before sending files to fabrication.
